In Māori mythology, New Zealand was fished up out of the sea by Maui, the Polynesian demigod. The fish hook was an important resource for Māori, as the sea provided a rich source of food.

The fish hook is believed to bring peace, prosperity and good health and signifies abundance and plenty, strength and determination. It is a tool for catching good luck and energy, and is therefore considered a good luck charm.

Found in the deep waters off the North and South Island coast of New Zealand near the Antarctic. The amazing multi-coloured blue, green and purple hues of Paua (pronounced "pah-wah") make it one of the most beautiful and one of a kind shell in the world.
